I was recently put on the NAPS-Waitlist. I was wondering when I should expect to hear back on whether I get to attend?

There are many threads on this. Recommend you look back the last few pages for alot of info’s the newer is anytime between now and about a week prior to I Day.

For those waitlisted for NAPS, if we don’t hear until late June, will DS have time to complete all of the to-do list before arriving July 23?

I hope that doesn't happen to anyone as you have to enlist in the reserves which can take awhile. Not to mention the mountain of paper work you have to do.

So if that’s the case, do you know if there is a cut off date for them to notify waitlisters to ensure we have time to do all the things? 😖🫣😬 Plan B is looking better everyday just to let go of all the unknown….

I’m certain USNA has a date they try to aim for. However, “if there is a will, there is a way.” I’m also certain that there are waitlisters on this forum (for USNA or NAPS), who if were told 3 days before reporting, they were appointed/admitted, they’d figure out how to get things done. Can’t hurt to look at the requirements now and make sure you have all your POCs (medical/physician, etc) at the finger tips.

They do not publish one. If someone gets one of the unicorn appointments to USNA or NAPS with a very short turn around, some things can’t be done. They recognize that and basically it’s get there and then they will catch up. It happens.

Yup, if the Navy wants it to happen, it will be done! DS Youngster cruise changed from SD to OCONUS with about 36 hours notice. He did not get final departure time until about 8 hours before flight. Semper Gumby

Let go of the unknown no matter what. Go forward with plan B. If something happens with USNA? Assess when/if it does.

It doesn’t to any good to wonder.

My son’s bff was headed to NAPS. My son was on the WL to USNA. Both were pulled and sent to USNA. They both were on plan B’s. And had to decide. It wasn’t even a thought to decline. It all worked out.

And it’ll work out for y’all, too. One can only do what’s humanly possible. If you can’t complete the paperwork? Then you cannot. But, I suspect you can 😉 It’s not THAT difficult.

If it’s one of those really short turnarounds, then USNA Admissions can work the triage with the appointee. After all, they not only control the what and when of the admin, but know exactly what day it is relative to I-Day. Identity documents will be a high priority. Immunizations - any sponsee arriving needingvsom wikl enjoy port and starboard arm jabs in true military style, makes fit delightful push-ups and planks.

I’m not as familiar with NAPS waitlist as I am USNA waitlist…. Unlike attending USNA, you need to enlist in the reserves in order to attend NAPS. My friend was actually on the NAPS waitlist last year, but he got pulled on the 25th of April. (NAPS waitlist decisions came the 15th of April last cycle). But I have a cut off day for me, because my day to report to USAFA is the 26th of June, (a little less then a month before Naps starts) so if I don’t hear by my cut off day, I’m fully committing to attend USAFA. Because the worst thing would be to not have enough time to get stuff done for NAPS due to hearing super late.

You'll have plenty of time to get everything done in time for NAPS. Worst case scenario, you can even enlist at Naval Station Newport when you get there.

Oh really? Thank you, I didn’t know that.

DD, currently at NAPS - if appointed to NAPS you will have a deadline to enlist in the Naval Reserve, typically end of June. Yes, some do show up without enlistment and do get sworn in at NAPS, but not many, and probably not a good look if not a good reason for putting it off. Caveat, you must be sworn in by an AD or Retired officer, not NCO. I say that bec most Navy enlistment offices do NOT have an officer assigned to them and the POs and Chiefs working there cannot do the oath taking and they really are not interested in you as NAPS enlistment does not count towards their quotas - we experienced that with the first two offices my DD went to-they pretty much blew her off. Finally, found with with officers, but you are dependent upon their schedule as they are not there everyday. And that the people staffed there had no clue about NAPS enlistment, so they had to contact the NAPS POC. My advice: once appointed get this done ASAP. Funny thing was the enlistment process wanted to see the original copy of her HS diploma, so we had to wait until the day after graduation to go to the enlistment office. Do everything asap bec July 23rd will arrive before you know it and there are road bumps along the way.

Thank you for that clarification. That’s what I thought as well. So definitely probably not the best if you have less then a month to get everything done 😅

30 years ago, I was discharged from the Army, went home on a break for a week, reported to Newport for NAPS a week late, and got sworn in there before getting sent upstairs for delayed shenanigans.

Point? The military will make almost anything work if they want to.

From last year: You will be submitting thru your CIS portal documentation back to USNA, usu asap, very similar to incoming Plebes. You will have the enlistment deadline end of June. You will also submit some documentation directly to NAPS no later than a few days after July 4th. And, you will bring copies of all previously submitted documentation and non-submitted documents NAPS when you report. Includes SSN card, not a copy. The NAPS checklist will keep you straight.

Not ideal, but nothing to panic over. Again, worst case scenario, you can take care of things there. Just communicate with them and let them know. They will work with you.

Congratulations to all the NAPSters who got their appointments today.

May you have an easy Plebe Summer!
