C/O 2028 Wait List: The Wait Listed Bunch

I hate to try to play the whole statistics game, but curious to see how many on average decline their appointment each year and give spots to the waitlist. Only admissions knows that I guess.
Keep in mind, there is not necessarily a 1:1 decline to accept from waitlist ratio.... USNA anticipates some declines , but usually has a pretty good feel for what the yield (ie. acceptance) rate is. They are shooting for fixed class size , and will make offers of appointment from waitlist to fill out the class. As noted, some years are better for the waitlist than others .

So from my knowledge, appointments coming from the waitlist are either a solid yes or no… depending on the amount of accepted appointments (1170).

Class of 2027: Offers of Appointment - 1,379; Class Size - 1,175.....
1,379 - 1,175 = 204 (Declined???)

Just as point of reference. A friend got waitlisted last year. He accepted his Plan B, which was a 4-year Army ROTC scholarship to a big SEC school. Sent in his acceptance etc. for ROTC. He also still needed a medical waiver by USNA but got it for Army ROTC. At the end of May USNA pulled him off the waitlist, gave him his waiver and he is now about to climb Herndon in a couple weeks. You just never know. He was all set to go to his Big SEC school on an Army ROTC scholarship and now he is about to be a 3/C Midshipman at USNA.

Where do waitlisted people get charged? MOC, additional appointees, ect? Are we waiting for other people in our state or congressional district, or nationally for the additional appointees?

I’m not sure if the class size 1175 is after they take students off the waitlist or not though. As those who get taken off can choose to accept the appointment.

I think the one I referenced above was charged to a Presidential.
How could you possibly know that? You might know that they had a Presidential Nom but they could also be charged to Additional Appointees which is very likely this late in the game.

USNA traditionally has a high yield. Normally the wait list is 100. I have seen years that zero have come off the list, and some years closer to 20 and anything in between. As the final puzzle pieces are determined (waivers resolved, declines, cold feet), the yield will become clearer. As it does, USNA will send waves of TWEs to the wait list to reduce the list based upon the class solidifying. Follow the advice they give, move forward with Plan B, stay in shape, and hope for the best.

To be honest in the doc that was given to us, no advice was given (at least none that I saw)
