Hey everyone, I just received a call from my congressman that I received an appointment for West Point's class of 2028! I wanted to share this news as the forums have been so helpful to me and I wanted to give back everything I learned from this process and if anyone had any tips for me coming into R-day that would also be greatly appreciated!

If anyone is interested my stats were the following:
* 1340 SAT (690 Math and a 650 Reading/Writing) - I took the SAT 3 times and the ACT once, really give these tests all you can!
* 4.0 Unweighted G.P.A and I took Dual Enrollment classes at my Community College during the fall of my senior year.
* Student Body Treasurer my Sophomore year and Student Body President my Junior and Senior year.
* National Honor Society Attendee my Senior year
* Tri-Sport athlete for Sophomore - Senior year. (Men's Volleyball, Soccer/Basketball, and Track)
* In my opinion, a subpar CFA, but was approved by West Point (may not be the case for everyone!): 70 ft basketball throw, 11 pull ups, forgot the shuttle run time but I maxed this, 61 sit ups, 65 push ups, 7:50 mile.

My final reflection and biggest piece of advice from this experience to anyone who is interested in the service academies is ALWAYS BET ON YOURSELF! I literally found out about West Point at around the end of April of my Junior year at a random college and career fair! But there I met my RC and FFR and I ended up spending the entire time at the West Point booth and I knew USMA was where I needed to be. When I went home that day I immediately reached out to RC and FFR, opened my candidate file, and signed up for the last available SAT. I'm sort of rambling right now because I just received my call like an hour ago so I'm still a little in shock lol but if anyone has any questions, I try to upload a couple more posts so I can unlock private messages.

I'm so grateful for this opportunity and thank you again to everyone on this forum who helped me!! And again, any advice for WP is greatly appreciated, going to go celebrate now!!!!

Thank you so much! I received a call from my Congressman’s SA liaison at around 6:30 then at 8:30 pm my Congressman called me from Washington to inform me that I was selected! It was awesome to hear but now I’m having trouble falling asleep because I’m so excited
Securing an appointment is a significant achievement—be proud of yourself! Begin searching for boots that truly fit comfortably. Encourage your parents to join the parents club for assistance. Reserve a hotel or Airbnb nearby for R-day 7/01 (arrive early for two days), and 8/16-18 for A-days. Explore the forum for more details. Consider buying a mosquito net face mesh for outdoor sleeping. Temper your excitement by watching videos depicting the rigorous training and academic load. My DS solely applied to USMA and has been enthusiastic for 10 days. You'll meet others, form friendships, and find roommates. Many tasks await—congratulations!

Congratulations! I echo your sentiment to always bet on yourself. I found out about the service academies around the end of March my junior year and just barely made the application deadline for SLE and NASS.

Congratulations!!! Amazing accomplishment! You need to add it to the appointment thread.

Huge congrats and thanks for sharing your stats. Hopefully my DS will be a plebe with you!!!!

I couldn't sleep either and didn't get exciting news. Congrats.

I have my student who's waiting to hear from USMA in class now. We, I mean she has been on pins and needles waiting to hear. Some bone head hit her this AM on the way to school. Nobody was hurt but she was driving her mother's truck.

Glad she is ok. Worst thing that could happen right now is an accident.

Congratulations! My DS has way lower SAT scores than you and very subpar CFA with one sport! So still hoping and cheering on!

I am from California. Also, that's great to hear; I am excited to meet him on R-Day!

So, You are saying your congressman can call you and tell you that you are accepted to WP? Or just the he/she nominated you?
Thanks, phackett-
My DS received a call that he(congressman) was "appointing" him- My DS was so excited, but unsure if that is to WP or just an appointed nomination. Ugh- this process tho:)) LOL ( the waiting)

Haha, DS had a similar phone call from his MOC. After he was done congratulating him, my son then asked, "just to be clear, are you saying I am nominated or did I receive an appointment?" MOC then laughed and responded, "No, no, I want to make it clear that you have been accepted to the USMA." It was hysterical and pretty sure after a month of hearing this news my DS is still in a bit of shock that the dream has become the reality.

Best of luck to your DS it's the appointment!
