Do you think they will start calling on May 5 (Sunday)? Or are they waiting until the following week? So anxious!Same here. Moved on to Plan B option but still hoping for USCGA!

For those on the waitlist, I know that 1 May is the application acceptance deadline for those with appointment offers. However, even if a lot of applicants decline, that doesn't necessarily mean there will be immediate movement from the waitlist for several reasons.
1) Like all colleges, CGA always gives more appointment offers than they have space for. They know, historically, approximately what percentage of applicants will decline. So those on the waitlist need for more applicants than anticipated to decline or to not get the medical waivers they need.
2) The waiver deadline for medical is not until 15 May. So those who have conditional offers might not know until 15 May if they have been waived. This will affect the number of spots available as well.
3) If, after all those numbers are in, CGA decides they still have spots available to offer to some students on the waitlist, then they still need to go through all of those who have accepted and see what the distribution looks like. Where are their numbers a little low? Do they need more cyber majors? Do they need more applicants from the midwest? Do they want more applicants of a certain ethnicity? Do they need more athletes in a certain sport? Remember that everyone on the waitlist is highly qualified. Every single person on the waitlist is someone CGA would be happy to have in the class of 2028 (or 2029 for Prepsters) if they had the space. So when Admissions starts making offers to those on the waitlist, they will be very selective. You just have to hope that you fit the area that they still need the most based on the current makeup of the incoming class.

Following, but our son is extremely excited about the plans for this fall that he’s already set in motion. We hesitate to call it “Plan B” because he’s very excited about what he’s chosen.

A few tips from a former waitlist family.
- Remember that appointments can come as late as a week before I-Day.
- Learn to recognize the New London area codes (860 and 959).
- Keep your AO updated about any new honors, awards and recognitions.
- If you think you might need a medical waiver, request your documentation/medical records now.
- Be ready when you get the call.
My current cadet was on the waitlist, paid deposit at Plan B school, had airline tickets for Plan B summer orientation and even decorated grad mortarboard with Plan B mascot.
Exactly one month before I-day (and day before HS graduation) receives a call from CGA AO: Congratulations, gets conditional appointment pending medical waiver. Kid returns medical documentation knowing waiver review could take a few to several weeks.
While waiting for waiver to clear: buys ‘motivated’ socks, t-shirts, underwear, extra running shoes & iron-on name tags. Downloads and completes all registration forms in blue ink. Registers for RISE at CGA. Books an airline ticket to CT.
Ten days before I-Day, AO calls. Good news, medical cleared! Due to time limitations, kid is deferred to next year’s class. Kid’s response, “Sir, I have a bag packed and airline ticket in hand. I can be there next week.”
The next morning, AO calls again. Kid is in. Five days after receiving a full appointment, kid is flying from west coast to CGA.
According to my cadet, at least one more cadet was pulled from waitlist in the week before I-Day.
Waitlist means you are qualified to earn a spot at CGA. There are still eight weeks until I-Day. Semper Gumby! Good luck!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I was wondering how do you request a medical waiver? I thought USCGA waivers on your behalf. Also, if you get a conditional appointment and deferred for next year, do you have to reapply again or is your spot guaranteed for the following year?
As the month of April moved on, my waitlister slowly went from CGA is still his first choice to wavering to saying he'll probably stick to his plan B regardless, but has agreed to continue to think about it. I think the limbo is getting to him. He isn't usually phased by uncertainty, but his preparation for USCGA & plan B are in conflict & it's frustrating for him.
I do not do well at last minute anything, so the idea that a call could come in a week before report day is nerve-wracking to me, but I'm trying not to let that influence him.

I admire all of you on the waitlist. I feel like the entire admission process took years off of my life. Hang in there and best of luck to everyone no matter what ends up happening. 
We are big planners, too, and this is definitely nerve wracking. We’ve moved on to Plan B, but cautiously hopeful for good news on the waitlist!
