How are the workouts at NSI? Is it similar to Plebe Summer? How much running, exercise should I be prepared to do? Thank you!

Have you researched your unit’s pages hosted on the university website for info on NSI physical requirements and the suggested pre-arrival physical training plan? Now is a great time to do a deep dive into your unit’s website, read every page, link, menu item. Your first strategic move is to always put in the work researching primary sources first.

You are wise to research the physical fitness requirements now. If you have a scholarship, it will not be activated unless you meet physyval and medical criteria.

Here’s a sample:

Capt MJ gives great advise on this as per usual. In the NSI packet is info about recommended workouts. That is also a good place to research. How much working out will you be doing? Alot. I recommend focusing on body weight exercises, polymetric type stuff, and running. Exercising is a excellent way to add stress. NSI is all about adding stress. Being in really good physical condition will help to get you ready to handle that stress. Use the time you have to get ready.

No one has every said "I was in too good of shape for NSI". Better to be over prepared when it comes to fitness. Just do it smart and don't over train and cause injuries.

Past (and now returning) MI here. Ideally, you should be ready upon arrival to perform a full inventory PRT - with at least two months of prep time, there is no real reason why you shouldn't be. While the actual PRT won't be conducted immediately, several factors (stress, poor sleep, change in diet) can and will impact your performance on any physical activity. Additionally, be ready for early morning sprints/runs, calisthenics, swimming, and lots of ITE.

TLDR: Be prepared for a lot of physical activity, especially at uncomfortable times and in non-ideal places.

And then there is the "confidence chamber". No real way to prepare for that. But it's nothing to cry over. 😉
I see what you did there.

Made me think of when I was in the police academy a million years ago. We had an instructor in the classroom talking about the various chemical agents we might be using. He was talking about CS gas delivered via a shotgun launcher and was demonstrating how it works. Well, he drops a CS cannister into the launcher as he is talking. Then he lowers the shotgun barrel; the cannister drops out and smoke starts filling the room. Most of us assume this is an inert round and it's some kind of test or bad joke to see how we react. Then I see the reactions of the people in the front of the room as the instructor tells us to evacuate the classroom. Fortunately I'm towards the back of the room, so I didn't get the full effect, but it was plenty.

I'm sure policy was reviewed and updated after this.

If you are worried about the PT at NSI you've answered your own question: You need to do more. Excellent physical fitness is now a way of life from here on out. You don't need to be in SEAL or Marine shape but you should be in good enough shape that you're not worried about NSI. That is your goal so you need to be on it at least five tough workouts per week without excuse. Then you won't worry.
