USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

Good morning, everyone. Just checking in with those waiting.

No news here yet. We have not been informed of being wait listed, though maybe we should assume that at this point? Any updates from others who are waiting?

The traditional May 1 college acceptance deadline has passed. Many candidates for class of 2028 service academy appointments are waiting to see if a spot opens up. As of this morning the appointment list's for Air Force, Army, Navy show:

USMA 153 appointees 13 have declined 33 undecided
USNA 146 appointees 4 have declined 15 undecided
USAFA 133 appointees 15 have declined 15 undecided

If you extrapolate out a bit to the entire class for each academy and also take into account that some posters have not updated, there is still hope for those waiting. Good luck to everyone waiting this week!
 
Does anyone know roughly how many people each year come from reapplying after a year of college not a prep school or self prep at a military institute? Are they given a separate appointment category or are applicants judged in the same pool of applicants as standard high school applicants? Additionally, how big of an impact do first semester college grades have on my next application, assuming I take the recommended classes and get straight A’s?

Unfortunately it’s by nominating source though so I’m most likely waiting to see if someone from my state denies

There are two '26 USAFA Cadets from our Congressional District (including my DD) and 2 '26 Cadets from the adjoining Congressional District, so more than one can come from each district (I don't pretend to know how that all gets sorted out). None of these four cadets were recruited athletes, preppies, prepsters, or prior enlisted (none came from a separate appointment list).

One of the Cadets from the adjoining Congressional District was in my DD's CAP squadron and we knew him and his parents before his appointment. The other Cadet from the adjoining Congressional District came off the waiting list very late in 2022 and we have since come to know him and his parents very well. The Cadet who came off the waitlist earned a spot on the Superintendent's List this semester and is excelling at the Academy.

Has there been any updates or appointments from USAFA or USAFAPS? It has gone quiet for the most part in this and other waitlist threads. My DD is a Prep school Waitlist hopeful. The application for 2029 has opened up- is she allowed to start filling this out before she is notified either way or should she wait? She is also going through meps and will be signing up for afrotc at plan b university. If she signs up for reserves will it affect her ability to choose prep school in the case they might have a spot for her?

Very quiet on all fronts.

Come on usafa. I’m picking out grad party materials today and black/gold is in the cart, but I can still switch out for blue and white!!! 😝😅

I am in the same exact boat! My daughters high school colors are blue and white, so I wouldn't have to switch up a ton ... lol
 
Since we're all waiting... For those who are on the wait list, how did you learn you were on the wait list? Did that news show up in your portal? An email?

my DD received a golden envelope in her portal. She opened it and it stated they could not offer her a spot at the Academy but she could opt to be put on waitlist. She immediately responded with Yes! We are hoping that space will become available.
