Hello, I am a student that has gotten the Army ROTC 4-Year Scholarship for Santa Clara University. When I was selecting schools, UC Santa Cruz, the college I wanted to attend, was not an option, so I chose Santa Clara as that's the host university for Santa Cruz. I have been accepted into UC Santa Cruz for Robotics Engineering, and that is the major I put. I sent them an email asking them if I needed to change schools, and they told me Santa Cruz was not an accredited engineering program, and that's why it was not an option when I first selected schools. Does anyone know why this is? From what I researched, Santa Cruz has ABET Accreditation in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as having a respected engineering department. Can I do Robotics Engineering, and will I be able to keep my scholarship? I am not sure what to do. My scholarship was based on having an Engineer major.

Last century when I interviewed UCSC candidates for OCS, the university's grading policy was all pass/fail for courses. No 4.0 scale. This made it hard to evaluate canditates. If the policy is still in effect, that could be the reason for non-accreditation. Any chance of a transfer to Santa Clara? Good luck.

I had heard something about this through NROTC channels, but we lean toward UCLA, USD, SD State, and a couple others, rather than UCSC.

From what my fellow PNS folks told me, back in 2016, UCSC made a conscious decision to cease efforts at maintaining their accreditation for most of the engineering except EE.

But I believe they have since doubled back and renewed in most of their departments.

A link to a student newspaper article in 2016 tells the tale, and I've attached what I think is their latest accreditation listing. You could perhaps use the number in the attachment, ask about the specific school, and then share that information back with your unit. It may help them reconsider whether or not to let you stay there, and at least they can go back and check and update their references.

Also, I would like to say I'm still in High School in 12th grade, and got the 4-Year High School scholarship. I have tried messaging Cadet Command, but all they tell me is that "The University of California, Santa Cruz does not have an accredited Engineering program that meets the requirements of the ROTC Scholarship." Is there a way I can have them review it again so that it becomes Accredited, is there someone I need to contact to help? Also, should I contact Santa Clara, the host university for Santa Cruz, to see if they can help?

It appears that you have your answer, UCSC Robotics is not accredited. AROTC can't review it again for you. And Santa Clara won't have any pull in getting AROTC to accept no accreditation. It would probably be prudent to start looking at other schools.
