Hello everyone currently a 1st year at my local California community college. Ended up here because ended up high school with 2.3 overall GPA and currently on a road to change it all. I started this semester absolutely terribly due to personal worries and life events that happened. But that was the past. I applied both in high school and this first semester but never did any of it because I wasn't confident nor had taken any of the standardized tests. (I am aware it seems concerning). Also gained a lot of wait during COVID so that doesn't help. But realizing this is truly somewhere I wanna go and commit I am writing this almost as a accountability thread to keep myself in check and update. I will study for standardized tests this summer and in hopes to get a good score to send as well as gain strength for the CFA and get back in shape and better form. As well as improve myself substantially. Then hopes 1.5 - 2 years time be able to apply to the academies and get in. I hope this doesn't sound like a a waste of time and I will try and try and if it comes down to it die trying. :) I hope to see some people at the academies years time. Hope to keep updating and receive an appointment to prep school or academy. Wishing you all the best in your journeys.

Good for you! Accountability helps.

Self reflection and improvements NEVER a waste of time. Ever. And who you are now, is not who you are destined to be. Your life story is just beginning. Our past struggle can fuel our future successes.

No matter the outcome of an appointment or not, taking positive steps to better yourself is always a good thing!!

Good luck!!

Good for you for great self awareness and personal drive. You're young, and what's happened thus far doesn't have to define the rest of your life.

Now ask yourself an honest question: Is the primary goal to attend USNA or to become a commissioned officer? Hopefully it's the latter. And if that's the case, remember that there are other -- equally excellent, equally honorable -- paths there.

Consider ROTC and OCS, along with USNA. They are different and play to different people, different strengths, different mindsets. But they, along with USNA, lead to the exact same set of butter bars. Best wishes to you.

Hello isch. I shouldn't but feel the need to tell you to be honest with yourself about your chances. You've been asking the same questions here for a long time and it doesn't appear you have improved much in the areas which will get you a nom or appointment. COVID as an excuse for most things these days should no longer be used. What is your GPA in this first year at community college? Are your medical conditions enough to prevent you from qualifying physically?

The advice from above, the two esteemed SAF members above that is, is priceless. The recommendation to look at other paths to a commission is a good one but as stated, only if your desire to be a military officer is stronger than wanting a degree from a service academy. Good onya mate (I had a conversation with a former student a couple days ago, an Aussie) for turning your life around. Let that drive you toward your goals.

Life improvement is a lifestyle. Every day is a chance to be a better version of yourself. I get up at 3 in the morning to get in my morning coffee, news update, and workout so I can be in my class room an hour and a half before I'm required to be there. I'm not bragging but just letting you know that the pursuit of excellence never takes a break. Good luck and I wish you the best.

Wow,,,,get a room ! PDA is a fry-able offense at USNA !

TO OP - some good advice above. I often say that the only certainty in the Admissions process is that 100% of those that don't apply will not get in, but be realistic in your expectations ...you have an uphill fight. If you are successful with the turnaround, demonstrated success academically, physically and work yourself into good leadership roles, you could have a compelling case to present to the Admission Board - it would certainly be an interesting discussion. Two points to remember (and this is not directed just to OP, but all Candidates)

1) You need to demonstrate success ... ..interest and desire alone are not going to get anyone into USNA.
2) Never use COVID as an excuse.. first, its water over the bridge and no one wants to reminded of that time, but more importantly, everyone was impacted and the leaders are the ones that will be able to show how they turned a difficult time into an opportunity.

Good luck.

And this is why @Devil Doc is one of my SAF heroes. 😉 I teach as well, and aspire to this regimen, but I keep coming up with excuses. I blame the bacon! 🥓
