Still waiting on Summer Seminar decision?

When will they send denials to NASS? Is there still a chance, if my DS hasn't received an acceptance yet?

It’s money 💰 in your pocket if your ds isn’t chosen. Of course diesel is half price to what it was that summer I made 3 trips there and back.

If my youngest son applies next year, he is tasked with the responsibility of paying his own way.

I think they have until April 28th to notify. We are waiting also, need to make decisions/plans. Air Force has to accept by April 15th, which is tough because she would prefer to attend USNA.

We accepted the SLE offer even though NASS is his first choice. He did get a CVW from USNA so hoping that will be a good alternative to NASS.

He'll get a better idea of life at the Academy during a CVW.
Both are great and different experiences. Both give prospective candidates exposure to the Academy in different ways to see if this is for them which is the point.

I got put on the waitlist for summer seminar last year on April 26th. Then got accepted May 26th for the first session. It was a bit of a rush but I went and it was worth it! This might not answer your question but it gives you an idea on when you could hear back.

To those who are still waiting, what date did you apply? DS applied March 1 and is still waiting. Is this just a bad sign? Do they send rejections as well as acceptances? Or do you get to a certain date and just assume you are rejected?

From the NASS website it states, "Students will be notified of their status via email no later than Friday, April 26, 2024." On earlier posts people have stated they were put on a waitlist on April 26th last year. My DS applied January 13th and still hasn't heard back. I might be biased :) but I consider my DS a strong applicant. Many have posted that summer seminar is a recruiting and marketing event, so I'm trying to take it as a bad sign by him not hearing back.

My son is still waiting and applied the first week it opened in January. But he is going to the Air Force Flight Academy 8 week program to get his PPL so probably would not do it if he did get in, only the first session would work and it would be tight. I just want to know!

As noted by all of the SAs, the programs are small. I remind my students that the vast majority of cadets and mids today did not attend a summer seminar as high school juniors. The good news is that students have initiated their applications to the different service academies.

By the way, there are other great ways to see the Academy. One good route is by attending one of the USNA summer sports camps. Many of my students have participated in them across all of the SAs. Students stay in the dorms, eat in the mess hall, meet cadets and staff, and they also work with the coaching staff. Good luck!

It was last year for DS.

He applied for NASS on Jan 4, 2023 (1st day the process started).
He got rejected on April 26 "I regret to inform you that we will be unable to offer you admission to Summer Seminar this year. With more than 6,000 applications and a process that ensures students from each state and U. S. territory have an opportunity to attend, we, unfortunately, do not have the capacity to offer every applicant a spot." but he was allowed to continue to apply for admission and also eventually got rejected.

No matter what the nature of this program is "recruiting and marketing" or "competition" -- if there are more applicants than spots available, someone will get rejected. It is also a rolling admission. So the long wait is not a good sign -- it is so true for us.

By no means to discourage you -- if you believe your DS is a strong candidate -- go ahead to put the best effort to apply for, just as we did.

I wonder who is getting in right away then? DS has a 5.02 GPA, varsity lax, multiple successful robotics teams, student govt and more. Not being sour grapes, but seriously wondering what admission for this program is based on? I can't even remember what the application had asked at this point.

It's a marketing tool for the Academy. It is not fully based on academic stats. They certainly show the Academy interest, but if you are from a highly represented area or demographic, there will be less inclination to invite.

We're from the area, and my kid had really solid stats (except SAT), and we didn't get invited. Heck, the first time he really got to see the Yard was when I dropped him off at Alumni Hall on I-Day. And there were tons of kids in his class (every class) who never went to NASS or got a CVW. People seem to think getting one of those is a prerequisite to get an appointment. Not even close.
