I'm getting a little confused on what happens when you come out that weekend before Mon. 7/1? Looks like on Sunday there is fellowship for the religious groups. Is there anything else being offered either Sat, Sun or Monday for families to be able to tour the campus or any sort of orientation? I see RISE is something you need to sign up for and only a couple people can attend with the cadet. We'll have a sibling with us as well so that doesn't work. Does the academy have any special meet and greets other than RISE? Thanks!

In addition, google things to see/do in the area. For example, Mystic has an aquarium. The beach is not too far away. Also, if your kid is an athlete, some coaches have cookouts at their house so new teammates and families can get to know each other. Getting there several days early has benefits. Get the lay of the land.

Yes there are tours. Also hit the exchange to buy swag, agree on a spot at the parade field to meet after swearing in, but definitely tour the place so you know what your kid is talking about when the stories start coming out over the phone or at Christmas.

I’ve heard RISE is a nice program. It’s not something we did last year and we still had a great time with plenty to do!

Many of the tours and activities are available on both Sat and Sun, so you can sort of pick and choose what to do and when.

Last year, swim team had an ice cream social at the pool on Sunday afternoon around 4pm. This was also the opportunity to drop off your swim bags. Tip: pack some favorite snacks in your swim bag (stay within the rules…nothing with caffeine). There will be coaches time probably 2 times each week for about 90 minutes. It’s a pretty chill time to hang out, relax a little, swim if you want, and eat snacks.

We didn't do RISE because we wanted to balance participating in activities with enjoying our last bit of family time, but I would definitely suggest attending some of the activities over the weekend if you can. I was admittedly a nervous wreck (internally - I somehow stayed cool as a cucumber on the outside), but being on campus and seeing the community we were entering into really eased a lot of those worries. We also had a sibling and grandparents with us, and they came to all of the campus activities as well.

Sounds like there might be a call with the coach coming soon so looking forward to these details. No caffeine? Interesting.

The No Caffeine rule is across the board for swab summer, so be careful about the Clif bars that say Energy. Those will get tossed. And if your swab-to-be has a huge coffee thing going have them start tapering down a couple weeks before reporting in. The caffeine withdrawal headaches can be a real drag when someone is in your face.
