Does anyone have ideas for additional professional advancement opportunities during the summer? Summer training is only a month, and I would like to take advantage of the rest of the summer.
 
Your unit might know of some specific Navy opportunities. What about Project Go? Learn a language over the summer in a different country. All paid for by the DoD.
 
Internships. Now is the time to pursue those interests because you won't be able to after commissioning...
 
DS did an internship at a Navy research facility outside DC between his 3c and 2c years. It was a great experience for him. This internship was not limited to ROTC, but aligned with his major. He learned about the opportunity from his academic advisor for his major I believe. Just be aware, an internship could conflict with summer cruise. In DS' case, he received a waiver for his summer cruise. He was hoping to do both, but ended up not doing summer cruise that year.

Internships, internships, internships (as already has been said).

My unit's MIDNs did a few including, Congress, state government, defense contractors, Pentagon... just to name a few!
