I stubbed my finger really bad practicing basketball throw. Minor avulsion fracture putting me out for 3-4 weeks.

Just my luck that my deadline is Nov 1st.

Should I wait it out and see or reach out to admissions staff and ask for an extension on the CFA? Do they even offer extensions?

Needless to say, I'm a little worried.

First, I assume you have not turned in the Candidate Kit. Submitting the kit triggers four important items:
  • The person designated to administer your Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) will receive an email noting the URL to use to record your scores.
  • The AFA will request that the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) initiate the medical examination process for you.
  • Your Evaluator Air Force Liaison Officer (ALO) will be assigned and listed on your candidate portal.
  • The person designated to submit your transcript (or transcripts, in the case of a college student) will be notified via email.
  • Plus, the AFA application checklist will be displayed showing your progress with all key application steps.
So, yes, let Admissions (Team Blue or Silver) know of your predicament along with an estimate when you will be able to accomplish the CFA. However, they do not expect the CFA to be done by November 1 (unless you have already submitted the candidate kit). In either case, an extension should be granted based upon your timing. I have had several students/candidates that made the same request for different reasons.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you, I'm going to reach out to the Admissions team. As for submission, I have only submitted my PCQ so I should be good.

Just for more info:
If I receive an extension, will I still be a part of my application group? Or will my whole application and appointment be delayed onto the next batch of applicants?
Should I go to the DoDMERB exam with my broken finger or is that causes for trouble?

Have you submitted your medical history/questionnaire online yet? If so, you now have a change to your medycsl history. Contact your assigned DoDMERB technician to report/be advised on next steps.

You can find your tech under Contacts on DoDMERB home page, no login required.

@Academician: Thank you for all of the great information. I have a related but different question. I will be submitting my Candidate Kit in the next few weeks, ahead of my Nov 1st deadline; however I am doing my CFA this week ahead of minor surgery next week (which I will be reporting to DoDMERB). Do you expect any issues with completing my CFA ahead of submitting my Candidate Kit? My CFA proctor would be entering a date in the past if he doesn't get the request until later.

Yes, you should be fine. The scores from summer seminars in June are used all the time late in the fall. I hope your surgery goes smoothly.

Question related to the CFA score submission deadline. My DS has a Nov 1 kit deadline. It appears that his CFA score is also due by then, unlike in previous years when the CFA scores could be submitted as late as Jan 31. It appears the CFA score deadline is now tied to the kit deadline. DS was hoping to get several more months of training. Is my read on the deadline of Nov 1 correct? Thank you in advance.

From reading this year’s candidate kit, I agree that would be due on Nov 1st. The wording definitely changed from when my 2026er applied. However, it wouldn’t hurt to shoot an email off to his admissions team to confirm.

I sent an email to Team Silver, and although my kit is due Nov 1st, my CFA is due Nov 14th.
