Hopeful USMA Class of 2028 : a place to play the waiting game together.

If she has LOa, no worry. Keep contact your field officer or RC, they have many ways to find you a nomination source if you have LOA. MOC or senator will always give you one just because you have LOA. Just make sure you pass CFA and medical. I remember West Point superintendent also has the right to nominate too.

This is not accurate. It is still up to the candidate to secure a nomination, even with an LOA. Also, we have seen many times on here where candidates were not given a nomination by an MOC because they had an LOA. Their assumption was that someone else would find them a nomination because of the LOA, so they used their slots on other candidates.

Keep in mind there are ALWAYS people who have an LOA that don't get a nom and therefore no appointment. Don't count on the academy finding you one. Apply to all nom sources. Don't count on being given one either; some MOC staff can even be dismissive of an LOA, probably due to a lack of understanding, but it does happen.
Wow, new informations. Good to know.

Lol, exactly the same here. That's why I started this thread so I can discuss and analyze with others. My DS is on "cruise control". He just wants to wait and not think or talk about it until he hears something. He has never been on these forums and I read everything I can. My husband asks occasionally, but he is just in wait mode as well too. I think I just know how bad DS wants it and so my mom heart wants it for him. I am a "researcher" by nature, so that's how I deal with this stress.
"Researcher by nature"--I love it. I like to say I'm curious. My DD is applying to USMA and USCGA, back up is ROTC but hasn't made any movement on that, just got admitted to the university. 1 Nom for USMA. Waiting on a medical waiver.

Good luck to your daughter! Hope you all hear good news soon!

This is incorrect. Every year we have candidates who don’t secure a nom, the required piece of their LOA, and therefore no appointment. In fact a poster who is a frequent contributor, @IronmanDaremo, is an example. And I’ve worked with several who were fantastic resumes, with an LOA (USNA, but same process), and ultimately no appointment. The condition required being a nom.

What about athlete,LOA,3Q,Nom. Waiting and 🙏🏼.

If you have met the conditions of the LOA? It will turn into an appointment at some point, athlete or not. Congrats!
Nom is the condition. Thank you! Recruited athlete. Are they the last ones to get the appointment? DS is a competitive applicant

You said you had a nom in your post. Needing a nome as a recruited athlete is a whole different discussion. I was responding to him being 3Q with nom.

You can use the search function and read tons of past discussion about recruited athletes. He will still need to fulfill the conditions of his LOA.
