Had a terrific visit to The Citadel last week with DS. Lots of neat things to see and do but perhaps nothing more interesting than the beach house on Isle of Palms.

Any other SA or SMC have private oceanfront property for Cadet use? It is a pretty nice perk!

Beautiful - great to have right there in the area.

Stepping off on a quick tangent, then it’s time to get back to thread focused on serious stufff.

SA midshipmen and cadets can use any of the DoD Morale, Welfare, and Rec (MWR) sites around the world, including the Hale Koa hotel on Waikiki Beach, beach cabins on various Hawaiian Islands, Shades of Green Resort at Disneyworld, Dragon Hill Lodge in Seoul, and many other campgrounds, sailing facilities, rec cabins, beaches (Bellows AFS beach and cabins on windward side of Oahu!), etc.

Note: I know active duty cadets and midshipmen can use, not sure where USMMA midshipmen fall. Retired and active Reserve can use, of course.

Favorites of mine:

In Volcanoes Park.

Right on pristine Barking Sands Beach, Kauai

The hidden gem of the Navy rec facility at Solomon’s Island in southern Maryland. Waterfront cottages, boating, kayaking. Just go right down Rte 2 from Annapolis, about 52 miles.

And there are now rec cottages on the Chesapeake Bay at NSA Annapolis!

This kind of info is good to tuck away as one of the military’s cool bennies.

Wow! That's impressive. You are right; these are things you don't exactly join the military fit but they are certainly nice to have available.

Lol….amazing what our federal government provides the military services. My daughter and son-in-law, who is in the Marine Corps, have stayed in the Hawaii and also Disney World facilities. But my cousin who graduated from the USNA never got to use the facilities in the Hawaiian Islands, Disney world, or Seoul Korea, while at the academy. Citadel cadets can use the Beach House on weekends as it is located just a short ride from campus on the Isle of Palms. But an even nicer facility is the new Swain Boaring Center located on campus. Cadets can learn to sail and join the college’s sailing team…any day of the week when they have free time. One of the perks of being located in a coastal warm southern resort town…. 😏

We visited the boating center while we were on campus last week and even met with two cadets who are current sailing team members. DS is very interested in joining the team this fall, and yes, the facility is beautiful!

Just curious: are contracted ROTC Cadets eligible to use these facilities as well? I know they are eligible for Space A flights so seems like maybe they could use military lodging as well with proper DodD ID.

I regret I don’t know. Most of the individual sites have eligibility guidelines in the booking area. Actuve duty, retired, active Reserve, usually very ciear on those. Inactive Reserve, ROTC uncontracted-contracted, etc., I do not know.

Here is the page on the AFRC hotel, the Hale Koa, in Hawai’i.

I have to second Solomon's Island! We had several families rent cottages next to each other for years!
