C/O 2028 Wait List: The Wait Listed Bunch

Is it normal to shed some tears toward the end? A feeling of gratefulness took me over
Music - one of the most magical things about being human.
.
Music when Soft Voices Die — Percy Bysshe Shelley …

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the belovèd's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.
.

Awesome to see you were waitlisted without a nomination. No such luck with my DS, but glad someone else is getting traction with this crazy process! The silver lining is that we found out who got the appointment in our district, and the competition was over before it started, so some solace in the fact that it wasn’t going to happen even with a nomination in hand. Good luck!
It definitely is a rollercoaster of a process. Sorry to hear about your DS. I am surprised to think that I was even waitlisted since my academics and fitness aren't above average and the fact that I didn't even have a nomination is even surprising. Just wishing there was something I could do to get a check mark in the nomination box. Wishing you all the best as well.

So my DS is dead set on the USNA. He will head to UCF and re apply next year if he is not pulled off of the waitlist this year. Does anyone know, or maybe there is another thread, what is the best way to make that 2nd application stand out to admissions? What classes to take? Does ROTC help?

There is a pinned post at the top of the USNA page here w/ loads of great advice to reapplicants, as well as a lot of additional posts. The main guidance is take a plebe-like first year (chem, calc, english, history, naval science if available). Participate in ROTC if available, participate in a sport if available, retake CFA, SAT/ACT if needed. It is ok to reach out to USNA to ask for feedback on this past application as well. Be prepared to be told "just keep doing what you're doing!" - if you DS was waitlisted he was definitely close already. Our DD was appointed as a re-app, happy to help in any way I can!

Just found it. You are right it is great. Thanks for your help and support.

For those on the waitlist - don't know if this will affect your status, but the midshipman candidates at NAPS have just been notified of their appointments (or not). They have until tomorrow 12noon to accept of decline. I imagine most will not wait until then, but maybe some movement on the waitlist after May 7th noontime???? Good Luck and best wishes for all on the waitlist - you all are FQO in my book.

As a practical matter, I would expect that Admissons has been looking at everyone who is still at NAPS as an Appointment. Of course there are exception to every rule, but there would be very little reason to hang in there at NAPS until graduation and not accept an appointment.

That’s true, although there will be 60+ people at NAPS this year who did not receive an appointment. Due to DOR’s/not passing the standard requirements. My friend knows quite a bit of people who didn’t pass the requirements and will find out if they get an appointment today or not.

As an admin thing, Admissions may just wait until tomorrow to move forward on the waitlist? Just a thought.

From what I have heard, those on the bubble go before a review board to plead their case today.

Over the course of a year , or just finding out today ? What is the source of this information ?

My time at NAPS was long , long ago ...but by the time we got to graduation, I don't think there were any (or many) surprises -- you were either SAT (and got an appointment) or you weren't. I'm sure we lost more than 60 over the course of the year (I'd guess it was closer to 100 from an original class size of 300ish), but most were DOR or AcBoarded way before graduation. I really don't recall losing anyone the last few weeks.

I just want to be clear for everyone who is headed to NAPS or on the waitlist, requirements to graduate and get an appointment will be made clear for you the entire time while at NAPS. It is all in your control. Those that don’t have appointments and are waiting for a final grade, a PRT retake or conduct review knew they were on the bubble. This isn’t a matter of I met all the requirements and am still waiting to hear. Some on the bubble will get appointments, some will not. DORs are what they are.
