We have been going through all the paperwork for a USCGA appointment and my son took the vaccination sheet to his doctor to get signed and completed. The only question was a Polio shot after 18? He had the 4 polio shots as a child. Does anyone know about this? On the form It says ‘required one dose within a year of academy entrance - after 18’. Thanks for any help.

Yes, I think they need an adult polio vaccination even if they had the full series as a child. I remember my daughter getting that vaccination before reporting.

Did you get an email about filling out more paperwork, I haven’t gotten
Has the class of 2028 paperwork been posted yet?

Where is it posted?

What if they won't be 18 until later this summer? Will they get the shot at the academy?

Once someone is on active duty, the military healthcare system (TRICARE) monitors required vaccinations same as any healthcare organization. On I-Day, one of the stations will check immunizations and document status and needs.

This brings to mind one of the age-old bits of wisdom about checking into and out of new duty stations, which involves executing a checklist of running around, including visiting a healthcare facility. Check on your vax status a few weeks before heading out to new duty station! There is nothing a junior corpsman (enlisted medical personnel) likes better than to say, “Sir, ma’am, I can’t sign you out until you have your yellow fever and TDAP.” Nothing like starting a XC drive to next duty station feeling whacked by sore arms and an achey body. @Devil Doc I am not imagining the faint bwah ha ha I thought I heard when this happened?

Isn't there something that is supposed to be coming to the home, as well? Are those additional forms to what is on the website?
Unless they do something different than previous years, all the enrollment paperwork will be online. The only thing they mail to you house is the acceptance package containing your appointment folder and official acceptance paperwork, and then later on they'll send an envelope with some fliers for Day One activities along with a couple pre-addressed mailing envelopes you can use to send in your enrollment papers. It wasn't anything too exciting if I recall. Last year, they were very late sending that last package and my daughter had already mailed in all her paperwork.

Yellow fever vaccine was the worst (at the time, Great Lakes in ‘87)!

I'd probably let the CGA give him the shot when it's time. Or, call them and get their advice. If he'd be given the shot upon arrival for swab summer, rather after his birthday (which is after swab summer is over), consider getting it now.
I've tried to call the nurse number they give and left messages but can't get thru to anyone, blah. :)

Send an email to the email address on the immunization form. In our experience, they have been very responsive to that.
