Here’s one we hadn’t yet read:

Our rep does a principle nom and unranked slate. Our son got her principle nom to USAFA and also a Sen nom. And he also got on the rep’s slate for USMA. Both academies requested waivers from a football injury from this year. He got an appointment from USAFA before the waiver even cleared (but eventually did clear), and we’re assuming it was so early because of the principle nom. USMA cleared the waiver and put him on the NWL.

Today he got a call from a Capt. in admissions letting him know that he likely wouldn’t be getting the rep’s spot, but “based on the strength of your profile” they asked if he had other options, or if he would be interested in an AOG scholarship to a prep school. He let him know that he had already received an appointment to USAFA, so he would likely choose that. The Capt. asked if receiving a direct appointment would change that for him, and he responded with “I can’t completely said it would, but it would be weighed heavily”. To which the Capt. said he should hear something in the next couple of weeks.

We can only assume that the USMA principle nom got the spot, and they are going on fact finding missions to figure out the best candidates for the VP and Supt. noms. It also means what seemed more and more unlikely with each passing day, is probably a 50/50 toss up.

No idea if he’ll get an appt, and no idea what he’ll choose if he does. But we’d sure like this all settled!

It does not have to be VP or Supe noms as your son DOES have a nom. Once you have a nom (any nom), even if the MOC's slot is filled, the Service Academy is able to bring you in as an "Additional Appointee". Think of it this way, if you add up all of the specified slots - MOC, Vice Pres, Pres, Secretary, etc, the total number is less than the desired class size. The applicable law authorizes the Service Academy to bring in "Additional Appointees" to get the class up to authorized size. The key is to have a NOM.

Your post is very interesting and can't wait to hear the outcome. I'm curious if you are an USMA old grad? I see the frogs 97.

There are only 150 additional appointee slots and those are filled strictly by the top WCS. Then there are 50 Sup appointments, and 1-2 VP appointments.

My DS' FFR explained that his slates were very competitive and DS didn't win either one. DS also did not get one of the 150 AA slots based on WCS. That's why he received a turn down. A VP nom showed up in his portal recently. His FFR says it's possible DS is back in the game and only time will tell.

Partially true.
By law, the FIRST 150 are filled by top WCS. There are more than 150 additional appointees. The total number varies based on how the other slates are filled/used but there are more than 150.

Tbh, additional appointee is my DS only hope or the Top 150 QAs as he is not a Pnom on the 3 SAs. Thanks for this information.

Thanks for the clarification. We’re fortunate that he has an appt to USAFA, so the wait isn’t excruciating. But, he’d definitely like the option to be his.

Just to close the loop on this, we got word today that there is no appointment from West Point. He’s a little sad he doesn’t get the opportunity to make the decision, but we thought the odds were slim when he said he would take the USAFA appointment over the AOG scholly. But we’re all glad to have closure and he’s excited to get started in Colorado.

Best of luck to all that are still waiting!

Any thoughts on if you are on NWL this late in the game still.....is there even a slim chance of an appointment at this point...

As others have said, unless you have a TWE, there is a chance. A small chance, but a chance nonetheless. Hold on just a little bit longer.
ugh we are still holding on...while we have read today that people have had news good and bad. I am just not sure what you make of this, I am glad my DS is still in the game but man this is rough!
