I just read the class of 2027 handbook and I am worried my passport may not arrive in time for day one. Has anyone had any similar situations or advice on what to do? Is not having a passport on day one a concern for disenrollment?

Don‘t worry, you will not be disenrolled. Bring an expired passport or birth certificate to prove citizenship and tell them you have a passport order pending. If you have a real ID drivers license bring that too. Email admissions and advise them of your concern today.

It is common knowledge that the US Passport agency is way behind this year. This happens every year to a few folks especially kids accepted off the waitlist. As soon as your passport arrives have your parents FedEx it to you and let the academy know. Have your parents photocopy the first page and email it to you before they FedEx it so you have that as well and have the passport number in case the FedEx guys lose the package.

Bottom line, communicate, have a plan and have a backup. All will be well.

Welcome aboard the 103 acres!

Make sure you file it expedited. There has been a feisty debate on how serious the Coast Guard Academy is about requiring the passport, but I would do all you are able to get it on time. If you didn't file it expedited you can call them and get it expedited. It cost $60 for expedited and $20 for two day shipping. My son got his today three months after applying.

My son applied at the courthouse March 29th because he could get an appointment sooner than at the post office. We paid for the expedited service and I was surprised and relieved to receive it in 4 weeks!

I've been in a similar boat before, and here's what helped me out: first off, bring any expired passport or birth certificate you have—it's a solid backup. Plus, if you've got a real ID driver's license, even better. The passport backlog's been crazy this year, so you're definitely not alone in this boat. Once your passport's in hand, have your folks FedEx it over pronto, but make sure to snag a copy of the first page just in case FedEx decides to play hide-and-seek with your package.

Not having passport is only a problem if phase changes for Eagle are not in the US (don't think summer schedule has been posted yet), but they will work it out if there are foreign changes and if swabs don't have their passport yet. You do want it as soon as possible. I understand the passport office has greatly improved their response time. Last year it took my husband 3 months to get a renewal, but recently we've had friends that have received their renewal in 2 weeks.

We recently paid to have our expedited- went to the Courthouse since we could get in there quicker and received ours in about 3 weeks- it may have even been sooner.

Swab shorts are all very domestic this year, so passports won’t be extremely critical.

Also, looks like this is a resurrected zombie post from a year ago, but I suppose passport advice is always applicable.

I'm not sure I would take a picture of my passport and send it to a random app on the recommendation of a first time poster from a thread that was dead for a year.

💯 - plus it’s my understanding that the passport backlog has improved.

Indeed it has, at least for renewals. DW and I received our new passports within 2 weeks of submission.
Applications for new passports may not process as quickly.

I hit the Report button on that one - new poster, smells like AI, provides and link and tells you to send PID. Reeks of spam phishing.
