Y’all, my DS just found out he’s awarded the NROTC-Nurse Option scholarship. I know this topic has been beatin to death but can anyone just give me a quick run down on what’s next? It doesn’t have to be a thorough explanation. He’s a busy body and he needed my help to walk him through the process, but I’m the one that needed help. Thank you in advance.

Congrats on being awarded the scholarship.

Is your DS a graduating HS senior?
Formally accept the scholarship and enroll in the matching college, if he wants - stay tuned for DODMETS/ DODMERB Emails on how to complete their visual and medical exams (check spam folder too for these). Stay tuned for paperwork outlining bloodwork/ sickle cell test/ paperwork he'll need to complete for NSI in a timely manner. Stay tuned for a packing list for NSI ( a summer indoctrination program through Great Lakes IL facility.
Focus on staying physically, mentally fit and resolved. Stay out of trouble. Finish up HS. Avoid mechanical injuries. What specific questions do you have?

Thank you for the reply. He’s graduating HS in May. I read a snippets about the DoDMERB and NSI. He’s a very active student athlete and I’m all alone in this. I’m so lost and scared that I might screw up his paperwork. I’ll ask more when questions arise. Thanks again.

Mom of DD 4/c mid here (translation= daughter is NROTC freshman); was in your shoes a year ago.
There's not much for parent to do at this point. Staff at units/battalions will communicate directly with midshipman-candidates, expecting them to independently read & carefully follow all directions, requesting clarification as needed from their unit/battalion.

What I recall doing:
-- Scheduled appointment for sickle-cell test, regular healthcare provider (NSI paperwork needed copy of lab result which we didn't have).
-- Scheduled appointment for DoDMerb vision exam & medical exam after kid received instructions.
-- Bought her a knit polo shirt to wear for travel to NSI (she didn't have one); she wore with khaki pants & tennis shoes.
-- Drove her to airport, dropped her off for her flight to NSI.
-- On day of arrival back home, picked her up at airport.

YouTube has good videos for info, just search NSI also NROTC.
