Hello everyone,
I am currently a homeschooled senior in high school who has been committed to joining the military for years. I am in the process of applying to USMA, USNA, and USAFA, as well as AROTC, NROTC-Marine Option, and AFROTC. I appreciate the extensive knowledge and experience that is possessed by the members of this forum and I would appreciate and advice or insight that can be provided about how to further strengthen my applications or about how to navigate this process as a homeschooler.

  • Church Worship Team (7-10 hours a week, 2-4 weeks a month)
  • Youth Praise Band member/leader (1-3 hours a week)
  • Many service projects through my youth group (2-20 hours per event)

Honors/Awards:
  • Honor Graduate of my Basic Cadet Training class
  • Expert Cadet Badge (I am one of only six cadets in the programs history to earn this.)
  • Honor Roll Every Semester
  • Certified Lifeguard through the American Red Cross

Employment Experience:

In your applications, differentiate where you were a leader not just a participant or member in the classroom, on the athletic pitch, in your community, and through service. Wow with quality - I’m not sure items like setting up music equipment deserve the same real estate space as your stronger accomplishments. But you decide. Use your application to show where and how you made an impact, showed grit/ resolve, led, learned, helped others. Clearly articulate why you wish to serve. Good luck.

I'm currently a sophomore at Norwich on an AROTC national scholarship and was homeschooled all through high school. I only applied to USMA and for an AROTC scholarship as I knew my passion was with the Army. I live in the most competitive district/slate for all SA's. I made it all the way through 4Q to one week before final notification where I was denied due to the number of applicants. Are you also applying for an ROTC scholarship?
I agree with the leadership piece as stated above. Spell out and highlight a leadership section on your resume. Write outstanding essays on your own. Keep killing it with a high GPA.
Your credentials, so far, are impressive.
Please ask me any questions you may have.

My oldest ds was homeschooled K-12 and is currently at USAFA. He also received an appointment to USMA as well as AFROTC and AROTC scholarships. Now DS#2 (hs senior also homeschooled) is in the thick of the same applications. I'm happy to answer any questions if you have any.

Thank you for that advice, I will make sure I explain and show everything you mentioned in better depth!

Thank you for you reply, I am applying for Army ROTC, NROTC-Marine Option, and Air Force ROTC. Norwich would likely be my top pick if I am not accepted into any of the academies, how has your experience there been?

Thank you for your offer, I will definitely reach out if I have questions!
