Can anyone shed any light on experience with the typical DODMERB process timeline once they receive the exam. I understand that this is incumbent upon their being no issues. But if everything is clear, how long does it typically take to get DoDMERB from receipt to approval. My DS just had his exams (optho and full exam) at the end of last week.

The only thing typical is “It varies.” The pipeline is filling up right now as the annual data influx from commissioning programs ramps up. If no issues, and early in the cycle, probably a lot faster than December-January.

And 🤞 🤞🤞🤞, no IT outage periods, like what happened last cycle.

How’s that for a precise bit of imprecision?

Even when the exams are "done", there is may be factors that delay them ultimately getting to DoDMERB for review.

The DoDMERB contractor has to review the exams for QC purposes. If, for example, the examining provider didn't fill in all the boxes in the forms, then the contractor has to contact the examiner and let them know to fix. The examiner may not be responsive. If the forms aren't legible, then the contractor has to get back with the examiner to fix.

Once the DoDMERB contractor deems the exams ready for review, then it gets sent to DoDMERB to do their thing.

My DD did her DoDMERB exam in the middle of July 2018. DoDMERB sent back a questionnaire for her to answer for seasonal allergies in early August. Based on that timeline, DoDMERB was able to look at the exam the first time within 2-3 weeks of my DD completing.

But as @Capt MJ said, the pipeline is filling up right now with the Service Academies ramping up their DoDMERB exam requests.

It's hard to answer your question with a good degree of validity.

As all have noted, it varies. But, to provide a short current-term assessment, I've had three students complete both exams at this point with no issues. All have now received a "qualified" result in their SA portal. It took about three weeks from exams ... however, your son's results may vary, "carpe emptor."

Thanks so much and I greatly appreciate everyones responses and plan to be Semper Gumby on the timeline!. Just a quick follow up... so now that he is complete with the exam, everything is from the DoDMERB Website and DODMETs is used no more? Also does my DS get notification when there is a change on the DoDMERB site or does he just have to keep checking?

He will get a notice any change. But he has to login DoDMERB to find out what the change is. If he is qualified it will show on his applications to each of SAs or ROTC -- also a letter to download

This was DS’s Dodmerb timeline. He had no medical issues.

Thanks, Trinigirl. Curious how long after Exam Reviewed did you get a confirmation of medical clearance from DoDMERB?

DS received letter from DoDMERB that states:

SERVICE ACADEMY/ROTC MEDICAL QUALIFICATION DETERMINATION: 21 August 2023
US Naval Academy Qualified

Does anyone know how long it takes for this information to show up in the USNA/NROTC portals? Both still reflect medical status as incomplete.

As you are likely aware there have been lots of issues with the USNA portal not really reflecting completed items. My DS got his qualified USNA from DoDMERB about a week ago and though it hasn't been reflected as such yet in the portal, he was told by the regional admissions lead that he shows fully medically DODMERB qualified on her end. So I would check with your regional admissions and confirm it is there as the portal status is really not very reliable at this time.

USNA and NROTC will have the info when they need it to make decision, so that is good, because they can access DoDMERB results. This time of year, with data flows ramping up, might take days-a few weeks to show up in applicant-facing portal.

If it gets to 60 days, the candidate might want to call and check.

The opto recorded something wrong on DS exam. We are on day 25 of trying to clear it up. Craziness. Hopefully once Dodmerb actually gets the exam it will go quickly

Urgh… DS medical has been sitting in “Complete & Hold” for three weeks now. Contacted CIV and found out form DD2808 is missing from the provider…

I'm curious what came of your situation as my DS status just changed to that as well. He's a 3yr AD ARTOC recipient. Is there anything we can do to be proactive in the meantime?

Contact CIV. DS’s status was complete and hold because “they identified provider errors”. After two weeks of no change DS emailed and asked if there was anything he could do to help.

The next day his status changed to closed on dodmets and it was received on dodmerb’s end. That was April 1st. On April 2nd, exam was reviewed and he was deemed “Qualified”. Hope this timeline helps! 👍🏼

Very helpful. And good to know that it can simply be a just what the status says and nothing more. Doing this in mid-April sure doesn't help matters. Kind of stuck as the school of choice, ERAU Daytona, is unaffordable w/o the scholarship. Thanks for you input.

My son had his Medical 4/2 and the eye exam on 4/7. The med was forwarded right away to DODMETS. My son needed to call the Optometrist to get it submitted and it was finally uploaded this past Monday. It was completed with DODMETS this past Wednesday and received at DoDMERB same day. He received an email for a signed written AMI about scar yesterday. He submitted the AMI last night and was qualified today. Crazy fast.

Good morning,

To piggy back on this most recent post of the timeline for DoDmerb, I completed my appointments but have gotten a “Complete - on Hold” message from the DoDMets portal. I saw in another post that you are able to email someone who could maybe see what is held up? I tried calling the CIV team 5 days apart from each call and each time my case manager sends me to voicemail and doesn’t return a call (it’s okay if they’re busy)

Does anyone know if there’s someone else I can contact about my status being Complete - On Hold?

Thank you in advance for your time and I apologize if this was the inappropriate place to post this.

Same exact thing for my son, they wanted a statement regarding a mark on his arm. We responded (I play contact sports and I never even noticed it) and today he was qualified.

Also, they asked for a letter from his counselor showing no IEP/504 and recent transcripts. We already had those on hand.

Pretty simple.

Heading to NSI in a month!
