I just received my denial for the second time and was considering applying a third time. The only issue is I have accepted my appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. I will see how I like USMMA for a year, but if my heart still desires I want to reapply. Would anyone know how to reapply from another academy and how it would work?

Your passion to attend USMA is highly appreciated ! You must be a very strong candidate based on your appointment to USMMA. Just like my DS who is a very strong candidate to USNA (as matter of fact to any college he wishes to go) but got turned down. Life is much bigger than a dream college (or SA), and your military service is much more important than 4 years of SA. I heard, USMMA is more flexible to select a military branch and it is a great path to you.

I’m hoping it is, my only issue with it is that it’s maritime based and I’m not sure how the curriculum is when it comes to the military. Granted I haven’t been there yet, but it’s in the back of my mind. I’m just looking for any insight just as a backup in case I don’t enjoy the curriculum there.

It is true, USMMA has much narrower academics than most of SAs, it seems to fit navy better. If you don't enjoy the curriculum there, that is a problem. TBH, DS did not apply for USMMA even he was approached by swim head coach for possible recruiting -- for the same reason, the curriculum.

Did you apply for ROTC at all?

No, I was originally a USMMA prep so I am supposed to go to USMMA and the only other school I applied for just because was West Point. I’m gonna see how I like it there but if I don’t I’ll seek other options.

it seems you also like to join the navy, and you should focus on your path to become a great naval officer. USMMA's curriculum will prepare you well. Some actually selected USMMA over USNA.

No I just wanted to go to an academy. The opportunities any academy offers you is incredible and there’s a lot of value in being able to graduate from any of them. USMMA was the only other academy that allowed me to branch into the Army after graduation. Either that or West Point. My only real concern is not having adequate enough training to be an Army Officer.

If 12 week long of OCS training can turn a college graduate to an army officer, I am sure 4 years of USMMA will do that too.
