Good morning, I received my 4- year NROTC scholarship in February and Accepted it. I also got my NSI assignment. Now that I have gotten an appointment to NAPS how would I go about declining the scholarship so another person can get a chance to receive it? Thank you so much in advance.

You can reply back to the original email notification you received for the NROTC scholarship. As a backup measure, you can notify your NROTC unit that you will be declining.

I am certain you know this already, but your selection for NAPS is not a guarantee of USNA appointment. Just want to make sure you make this decision with your eyes wide open.

Would you happen to know statistics of how many in NAPS do receive an appointment?

Most of them. Large majority
Agreed. I don't know the exact statistics but it is a very high percentage. My point was simply that it isn't a 100 percent guarantee compared to the NROTC scholarship offer.

If you complete NAPS and meet the GPA requirement, pass the USNA PRT (you won’t do the CFA again), stay out of honor and conduct trouble… the acceptance rate is near 100. I have not heard of anyone who meets those requirements not getting an appointment. You will also have to submit for all MOC noms again and I believe retake the SAT/ACT. NAPS will make it clear what you need to do. In the end, it is all within your control. In reality, you have to do all those things to keep your NROTC scholarship as well and if appointed, remain at USNA.

Thanks, I thought this was the case. My cousin was NAPS.
