How bad of a look is it to ask to change CVW date? DD is scheduled for CVW this month. She just received invitation for herself and a parent to a program at West Point during the same time. West Point program is fully funded. For context, we live about an hour’s drive from Naptown.

I don't think admissions has an opinion one way or the other. I think many candidates have schedule conflicts. I would suggest prompt and polite communication between candidate and admissions to see what options there may be for a rescheduling.

They know candidates are considering other SAs.

Appreciate it! I figured as much - just wanted an informed opinion. Trip to USNA = $30 for gas and snacks. Trip to West Point = $1k+ after factoring hotel.

Yep, don't stress the logistics. CVWs are solely for you to get an idea of USNA in an unfiltered setting. USNA isn't evaluating you and neither is your host.

Plans can change for any number of reasons. I don't think USNA would think less of an applicant who needs to modify their visit date. Visiting ANY college your are serious about applying to should be part of your process and consider it an investment in your future. Some visits may cost more then others, but deciding to join the military and the associated commitments is a BIG decision. There have been various threads in the past about the topic of CVW evaluations. I don't know if they do/don't evaluate candidates, however I would always behave as though they ARE since you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Not at all worried about DD in terms of how she comports herself. If she’s evaluated during CVW, I’m confident she will be just fine. That said, I do think she’s leaning towards West Point, but she hasn’t officially visited USNA yet. We’ve been, but not as a candidate.

I work in higher ed and totally get the cost of visits. I’m trying to be strategic with allocation of resources, as I anticipate a number of visits over the next 6 months, running the gamut from Western Mass. and Rhode Island down to Atlanta.

My son received a CVW invite for a weeknd during football season. He sent an email to admissions and they replied with alternate dates and told him to pick one that worked when registering. No trouble at all (a deep run in the playoffs may complicate the new date but that doesn't look like a problem right now :) )

Good luck to DS on this year’s season!
