certificate wording- is this really an appointment?!

Our congressperson hosted a recognition event tonight for all the students receiving nominations from their office. DD is fully checked off on the portal other than the actual appointment, still CPR.

The certificate she received today states "Certificate of Special Recognition to DD on the occasion of your appointment to the Naval Academy", with today's date.

Again, no word from USNA in the portal or in email- but could this actually indicate she will be getting an appointment? We are dying around here but we don't want to celebrate if we are reading too much into it!

FWIW, there were three students whose names were NOT read in alphabetical order at the start of the handing out of certificates- one for each academy, and DD was among them. All the other names were read in alphabetical order after the first three.

We did not see the wording on any of the other students' certificates.

Thank you for any insight you might have from your own family's experience!
My DD received a similar certificate in the mail today. We are confused with the wording as well. I see that this a year ago, was your DD’s certificate an actual appointment? Thanks!

Sadly, no, it was not. She is in the process of reapplying this year and we are crossing fingers and toes!! She has received another nomination (but we haven’t gotten the certificate yet- curious if the wording will be the same!). Wishing your student good luck!!

Oh no, I’m so sorry. I’ll definitely keep my fingers crossed for your daughter this time around. Best of luck! We’re so nervous that this may be the case with our daughter as well. “Appointment” needs to be used very carefully in these circumstances. She’s did receive another nomination with different wording. No mention of appointment, just nomination. We’re waiting for a call back from the MOC to clarify or to see if her portal updates. We’re all pretty anxious around here. Thanks for getting back to me and good luck to your DD!

just saw your reply- I agree, the word "appointment" needs to be used with caution for sure! That is great that she has two nominations! Hoping for good news for her soon! (we are still waiting!)

The official certificate arrived today. Interestingly, the wording has changed from “appointment” to “nomination”- I wonder if our inquiry about the wording led to the change this year? The certificate is totally different this time…
