Son has received a Type 1 4-Year HSSP AFROTC Scholarship. He's already had a DoDMERB Physical as he's applying to all 5 federal SA.

He's been accepted to 1 state school and 1 SMC that use rolling admissions. Both of these schools offer and host AFROTC; neither is his 1st choice for college.

It sounds like (based on email correspondence) he needs to accept the HSSP now and choose a school in order to initiate the waiver process for AFROTC HSSP.

Q: If he is granted a waiver and later gets accepted at a different school, how easy is it for the HSSP to be transferred to another school? Regular decision schools don't render admissions decisions until early in the next calendar year. He doesn't want to be locked in at "ABC State University" just to get the waiver ball rolling only to find out in 3 months that he's been accepted to "XYZ University" which actually his preferred school but now has to scrabmble to complete DoDMERB waiver tasks.

Make sense or did I just confuse everyone as much as we're confused?

I don't know the answer to your question but would recommend asking the AFROTC program that he wants to attend. I'm sure they can give him good advice on what he should do.

Has a waiver been requested for USAFA? I believe that USAFA and AFROTC have the same waiver authority so if he is granted a waiver for USAFA, you two might be more comfortable waiting to accept the scholarship until he has an acceptance from his #1 school.

They will accommodate a transfer if at all possible. The other approach is to select the number 1 college and then transfer if the acceptance doesn't come through. Personally I would take the latter approach.
