I was at my NJROTC unit and checked my portal and it appeared.Congrats!!!!!!!! That’s huge!!!! When and how were you notified?
I’m sorry I hope he can earn a Side Loan scholarship as a ProgrammerOur DS received their rejection today via the portal. Congratulations to those who received the award and good luck! We'll see you all (in this forum) next year!
May I ask what a side loan scholarship is or where I can read about this . DS was also turned down and we are having one of those days and now questioning where did we go wrong in the process. Tomorrow we will pick up the pieces , plan B is in motion with the NROTC unit at UH. We did reach out to the Unit as well . Congrats to those that picked up.I’m sorry I hope he can earn a Side Loan scholarship as a Programmer
This has been on our radar as a backup option. Essentially, it's the same scholarship that you just applied for - but instead of being aimed at incoming freshmen, it's for upper-classmen who are completing their first or second year of college (will be entering their sophomore or junior years at college). Our plan was always USNA > NAPS > NROTC 4-Year > Enroll and Apply for side loan entry while participating in NROTC.May I ask what a side loan scholarship is or where I can read about this . Lots of info out there about Side Load Scholarships, but it is basically just a opportunity for a College Programmer to get a scholarship after there freshman or sophomore year. You have to have a scholarship(or exception called Advanced Standing) to continue in the NROTC past Sophomore year. Join as a college programmer, do well academically and in the unit, and you have a good chance at a scholarship.May I ask what a side loan scholarship is or where I can read about this . If he has not yet started college then this is the 4 year National scholarship. The side load scholarship boards are not until this summer. My DS just received the email that he won the scholarship. How do you know if it is a 3 or 4 year? I can't find that info in the email. Thank you.
Unfortunately, completion of NSI and the PRT done at NSI is required to activate the scholarship. Maybe reach out to the unit. He should be able to still do NSI if the unit OK’s it this summer. He would be more of a college programmer until the scholarship can be contracted on Oct. though I don’t know if the college will wait for payment of fall semester for that long. Alternate form of payment would probably be necessary until the scholarship can be contractedMy DS received a 4 year scholarship in the last round. He had DQ come up during the SA application process that could be fixed with surgery to remove a cyst. One he received his TWE in early April we went ahead with the surgery before we heard about the scholarship so thus wouldn’t be an issue for the reapplication. The six months for medical clearance is up on 10/15/24 obviously after NSI. Is it possible to activate the scholarship once he is medically cleared in the fall and do NSI after freshman year?
