Is information gained from Facebook groups found elsewhere?

I tried Facebook once many years ago … couldn’t understand it …

3-month Treasury Bills are paying about 5.5% right now … I can understand this.

Historically, the USNA Alumni Association has offered pics of PS to members. I don’t know what an annual membership costs, but not a lot. If you only want pics, that may be an option.

I stopped looking at pics on Facebook after the first few batches. My son looked like 400 other bald 18 year olds in every picture.

I honestly became a more patient person when my daughter was born. Just happened. That ended with plebe summer picture hunting. ;)

My patience increased during that period. Especially since those hundreds of lookalike bald heads were also wearing identical face masks blocking all but eyes and eyebrows. It helped to be stuck at home with plenty of dead time during that period.

The two things that I have found very helpful from the Facebook groups are: finding DS a ride to the airport when his sponsor family was out of town and we scored awesome tickets to Army/Navy game for a great price from another parent and then we got to sit with that family at the game. Another use has been meeting the families of our plebe's friends. We set up a meet/greet during parent weekend through Facebook. We were able to design and order company shirts for Herndon Climb. There can be negativity when parents don't agree with something, but I have found it much more useful than negative. Being able to connect with other parents during plebe summer who are experiencing the same thing that you are after dropping your child off on I-Day is also very helpful or it was for us. I guess it all depends on how much you want to connect personally with other families. We have met some amazing families and been able to share our experiences as our children go through journey together.

My mother was able to get me a ride to the airport, and also a place to stay when my sponsor family was not available. I was also able to get a ride to BWI during winter break from the Maryland parents club. They provide rides by parents to the mids throughout the week leading up to winter break. I was thankful that my mom found other parents and sponsors that are willing to help out and offer rides and places to stay when sponsor families are not available.

I'm a bit partial to Facebook, but I've really enjoyed the BLB group- I've connected with some other local parents (even meeting for coffee/lunch), and our daughter has been looking over the intro posts and making note of classmates who feel like a potential good connection (based on similar interests etc). It has also helped us keep our daughter on track with all the paperwork- she is very self-motivated and for the most part is getting it all done and we are staying out of her way, but there is SO much to do! it has been helpful to have a sense of what needs to get done from the group and help her stay on track.
