Hi all! My daughter got accepted to CG AIM this summer (YAY!!). I noticed in the handbook there is a medical insurance requirement. We self-pay and have Christian Health Ministries to pick up anything catastrophic. Any prior parents have any input on if this is acceptable? Should I start looking for a temp policy so she can go? This has been rattling around in my brain since I saw it so next week isn't coming fast enough!!

I don't know what insurance is required by CGA for attendance at AIM. However, I am an Admissions Partner and have volunteered at AIM in the past. If an AIMster just needs basic attention, the medical staff assigned to AIM will handle that. However, since the AIMsters aren't cadets, they can't actually be treated at the clinic on base. One of the main responsibilities of the Admissions Partners is to take AIMSters to the local Urgent Care facility if any medical issues arise that the medical staff can't treat with just basic things like rest, tylenol/ibuprofen, or providing fluids in the form of gatorade or other drinks. For anything which could be something bigger, the AIMsters are sent to Pequot Health Center in Groton and they are expected to have their own insurance. So I think that is probably the facility you would need to check with.

That all makes perfect sense. I'll check with the Admissions person and the health center, if needed. Thanks for the insight!!

I suggest a 1 week travel insurance policy if you live abroad with mission group....it's fairly inexpensive.

We needed to send a copy of our insurance card last year, just like many other camps, showcases, or summer sessions. I would attach whatever policy you have and just explain it when you send your paper work in. My son did end up getting sick last summer and had to see the nurse, which is guess is really common. He luckily was able to finish out the week.
