Still waiting on Summer Seminar decision?

I'm going to give an answer with full caveat that it's nothing but an educated guess...I have no inside info. It's location. For Summer Seminar and STEM specifically.

Do NOT equate this to less chance of appointment application because as everyone has said they're two different things. But your area of CT is likely higher income than most of country, higher awareness of SAs and therefore less ROI for marketing outreach programs like the Summer programs. Nothing more or less.

I get he is likely feeling disappointed, but try to keep it in perspective that it's a marketing program and not the end goal anyway (that's the appointment).

Wish you all the best!

I wonder who is getting in right away then? DS has a 5.02 GPA, varsity lax, multiple successful robotics teams, student govt and more. Not being sour grapes, but seriously wondering what admission for this program is based on? I can't even remember what the application had asked at this point.
5.02 gpa means nothing by itself. Out of what? 7.0? 4.0? There are thousands upon thousands of kids who look similar on paper. Find something else impressive to do this summer. It really doesn’t mean anything to not get in. Mine attended summer stem, varsity athlete, JROTC with leadership and regional award, NHS, volunteer etc. he’s going to the USAFA Flight Academy.

He is a Junior and will be doing the Air Force Summer 8 week Flight Academy through JROTC.

Oh, what you posted "USAFA Flight Academy", I and probably others thought that this was something at the
Air Force Academy (USAFA versus USAF).

Sorry for the extra A although, there are also Air Force Academy cadets there, one or two at each location.

Echoing what @OldRetSWO said.

Summer programs are part of USNA's strategic outreach (In BGO training, all summer programs are in the strategic outreach chapter). Attending or not attending has no bearing on potential applicant admission. Between plebe summer, multiple sport camps, STEM, NASS, sailing camps, there simply are not enough seats/beds for every kid who applies for summer programs.

Not being invited/accepted to one, has nothing to do with whether or not you will be a competitive applicant for admissions.

DS did apply for STEM, didn't get in. The following year, he applied, and noted in his application he was in a very rural area with limited STEM opportunities. He was selected and loved it. He applied for NASS, got denied. Had no bearing on his future candidacy. He commissions on the 24th.

Don't overthink the competition part of this. You will drive yourself insane. Your DS can put his best application forward, do the same for every nomination source he is qualified for, and keep kicking butt. He should only focus on what is within his control. His competition, what admissions is trying to piece together for the future Class of 2029 are things that are out of his control.
