My application was turned down by USNA this morning. I have been looking at the prep schools and have already applied to MMI, NMMI, and GMC. Are there any tips on which prep school to pick? Price is definitely one of my big factors so any of those eastern private schools are kind of off the table. No matter if I end up in the desert or in the dead south I will be excited to attend and meet some of yall in the fall!

I’m going to MMI as well! If you wanna message me about my whole decision process that may help!

My advice is to compare cost as well as travel time from home/airport. Can you drive home for break - do you need to find a ride to a major airport to fly instead?

I think most of these programs can boast a good chance at an appointment but honestly at the end of the day it's all dependent on how YOU preform. Have to be above average in academics and physical fitness. Have to stand out as a leader. Even then, it's not 100%. Both GMC and MMI have close ties to the SAs and their faculty can easily pick up the phone and make a call to admissions to recommend you (or send a letter).

I honestly don't know anything about NMMI.

DS picked GMC as self-prep USCGA and he earned his appointment. Other SA self prep students have received appointments as well, some are on the waiting list. Not aware of any who were rejected.

Cost was ~16k for the year after a GMC scholarship. College credits earned in the event of no appointment.

LTC Ramirez at GMC was very responsive and helpful and we did a zoom chat with him last April/May. DS showed up at GMC without ever touring (seemed to be questioning his decision while driving through the boondocks of GA to get to Milledgeville for day 1). But in hindsight, it was a good call.

Good luck with your decision!

Great attitude!!!

The correct grammar would have been ... where I would have GONE ... (have gone, not have went). Just a helpful correction.
...where I would've 'went' ????? WHOA!!!!!

🤓☝️, akshully you only need one question mark at the end of a sentence and apostrophes denote contraction or possession. The correct grammar would have been...where i would've "went"? WOAH!... Just a helpful correction.

On a real note though, this is a informal forum. Where i can speak in my own voice if you want to give me an F in grammatical predisposition on SAF Academy become my teacher first.
