I went to KP with the goal of getting into military aviation and branched into Army Aviation. Let me preface this by noting that I graduated in 2013, so it has been a while. You should have the opportunity to compete for any branch in the Army. If I recall correctly, you are required to list your top three preferences, for example: Aviation, Infantry, and Field Artillery. You compete for the spot you want alongside your classmates and the number of available spots varies each year based on the needs of the Army and the other commissioning sources (West Point & ROTC).
There should be a liaison officer stationed at the academy who is responsible for ensuring you receive the required training in Army knowledge and assisting in the paperwork. However, my experience with the liaison officer was not great. I showed up to BOLC without knowing what land navigation was. Be proactive and ask questions to ensure you are as well-prepared as possible.
