Hey all - I am new to this site. I am a USAFA '91 grad and JROTC Instructor in western NC. One of my cadets received a nomination from our Congressman and we are still waiting word from USNA. Her digital checklist is all complete, in fact we can't see her digital page anymore as the academy has locked access to it. There didn't appear to be any hiccups with DODMERB, all items showed green.

I don't recall this process taking so long when I was in high school in 1987 (I found out I was accepted to USNA and USAFA by December). Is it normal to not hear anything as we're approaching mid April?

Thanks for any guidance as I am trying to help my students navigate through the maze. She is the first cadet I've had to make it so far into the process and I hope to have a couple more working through the pipeline in the next few years.

I'm in similar shoes as your applicant, and I'm also in NC, however more on the east side. As far as I can tell I'm fully qualified (academics, DODMERB, Nomination, and CFA all show the check) at both the Air Force and Naval Academies. I have not heard an update from either. That said, as far as each goes, we are approaching each academy's expected "feedback date". USNA April 15th, USAFA April 21st. Not receiving anything by those dates (rejection or appointment), seems to indicate you're on a waitlist, however, I am not sure if the academies straight up release that, or just keep you in the "pending" limbo. That said, a *majority*, not all, applicants from what I have read here and on candidate books *should* have some form of feedback. Hopefully, your cadet and I both hear feedback soon, even better if its the result we desired! Hang in there

Yes, it is normal. Most appointments are issued in the March/April timeframe. If an appointment is not received by April 15th, then the chances are greatly reduced. AFA Candidate handbook noted that notices will be sent out by the 21st. Not sure about Navy. However, until the student receives the turn-down, there is a possibility for an appointment later. One of my students received an AFA appointment in late May last year, for example. Also, as you know, all candidates are considered for the Prep School and Foundation scholarships, so those invitations usually run through May and a bit later.

There are hiccups this year. My most recent guidance from our Area Coordinator for our state BGOs indicates that admissions is working slates and decisions are likely delayed. No specific reason stated, but a clear desire to know why and fix and resolve is stated by admissions.

Again, patience. Which is hard. I get that. Things out of our control exist.

FYI, USNA requires an affirmative acceptance of their waitlist. It’s not automatic. Make sure and check spam folders for alternate emails.

Every candidate will know their status at some point, around April 15.

Good luck to all!!

This year it appears to be more of an ultra marathon than a sprint
> This year really isn't much different than past...if you want to see what a delay looks like, go back and look at the 2020 postings(Class of 2024). Double whammy of COVID and rollout of new CGIS system.

AC may have been making observation based on what he/she is seeing in your state, but I don't think there has been any official word from Admissions. In the past (ie. 2020) when they knew they were delayed, Admissions was pretty good about getting the word out and managing expectations. From where I stand, this looks like a pretty normal year.

Keep in mind, the Admissions websites says "most" will know status by April 15. I've been watching this for over 20 years now, and know there will be exceptions, and those are typically "still in the running" and appointments may trickle in.

Correction, and I apologize…it was a misspeak…’most’ will know. And I also add from my shorter time here, that it is ‘April 15th-ish’.

The board will light up, if it’s April 16, and still no notification. But it does happen occasionally.

Remember, admissions are real people, like everyone here, doing their best. Working overtime as we approach this time of year.

I always extend grace.

As to your receiving an answer in December, I believe if your application is complete by the early date (mid October?) you will hear back by the end of December is my understanding. Your student was not complete by then, but something to look into for others. It would be nice to know in December.

Are you talking about nominations? Or appointments?

If you are talking about nominations, then this may be correct for your MOC sources. But each MOC can run their process however they choose. So this may not be correct for MOC noms other that what you used.

If you are talking about an appointment to USNA? Then this is incorrect information. The application due date is the same for all candidates, and USNA doesn’t use a FIFO process.

Absolutely incorrect. USNA Admissions only policy is "most will know by April 15."
There are many who submitted their application last summer who are still waiting.
There are many threads with detailed explanations about the Admissions process so I won't repeat, but bottom line is it is (at least) a two part process, Admissions Board and Noms/Appointments....most of Noms/Appointments work really doesn't even start until MOC submit their nominations. (Yes, there are some early appointments, and LOA's,etc..but the bottom line the bulk of appointments comes between February and April).

Sorry, I am wrong. I was talking appointments, and it looks like I was thinking of the CGA. I thought they all offered that but only the Coast Guard Academy has early action. I believe the OP is talking appointments even though the title is nominations.
