So close to wire and Application Status still shows Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review (Not Complete)

Those who have kids that were EA to RA and are athletes. What happens if they are offered prep school? My DD does not want to give up a year of her sport and I'm afraid she would rather go to Plan B school which is D2 and the coach really wants her.
As far as I know, none of the prep schools have a swim team. My daughter is currently a swimmer at CGA and I remember us researching it when she applied and thought CGAS may have been in the mix.

I think maybe what you’re getting at is not related to future eligibility, but more about not competing for a year while at prep school. Some may have a pool…maybe MMI or GMC (I can’t recall off the top of my head), so still possibly an opportunity to get Independent pool time depending.

As for her thoughts to move on to plan B, she’ll just have to weigh out what’s more important…swimming right now, or big picture doing the academy thing and commissioning as an officer.

I’ll also say this. While athletics are obviously important at the academy, and the athletes and various teams work hard and have the desire to be highly competitive, it’s clear sports are tertiary to academics and military obligations. It’s just the nature of a service academy.

That said, the swim team coaches do a great job working through all of the competing challenges and turn out a great product.

Looking back at the 4/c cadets this season after going through swab summer and the first part of the academic year being completely out of the pool for the better part of 4 months I thought it be a train wreck. But many of those kids were swimming best times by mid season taper meet and then conference champs. Pretty remarkable! Highest ever finish in the NEWMAC conference at 2nd place.

Lots of words to say, if attending CGA and serving in the CG is important to her, then accepting a CGAS appointment and missing a year of swimming shouldn’t really even be a question. She’d have no trouble coming back and being plenty competitive!

It’s a lot for kids to have to consider! Good luck in these final days!

Thank you! I have been telling her not to give up prep if that's what ends up being offered. She still is waiting for a decision. She basically lives in the pool and has since she was six and I just think she is stressing out thinking there is nothing else. It's hard to get these teenagers to see the big picture sometimes. I appreciate the detailed response.

I understand completely! Lived it! When your entire world and every single thing you do as a family revolves around a 365 day a year never ending swim schedule for 10+ years, it’s hard to grasp a few weeks, let alone an entire year out of the pool. Its hard to let go.

I also tried to put it in perspective for my cadet. Her high school and club was so competitive for her cranking out a lot of D1 level swimmers. It made swimming more stressful than it needed to be. I think she carried that feeling into the academy prior to the season starting and was apprehensive. I said, look - it doesn’t matter! You have four more here years and then it’s just over! You’re not going to the Olympics and you’re not swimming professionally. It just ends! Big picture, other than something to do that you like, it’s pretty meaningless at this point. Hard to think that way, but it’s sort of true.

Fast forward now that her first season there is over, it was an incredible experience! The team is super tight, and they’re all such good friends! All the swimmers are just friendly and welcoming and it’s not cliquey at all! Even the 2/c and firsties! They all just took her in. It really doesn’t matter if you’re super fast or not as much, they’re all very supportive of each other. From a parent perspective, it’s by far the best swim team experience she’s had in her life.

All that said, if it comes down to waiting a year, it’s so worth it!

Exactly! She's still not grasping that college swimming isn't year round like club teams!

Saturday over, nothing new here
We are down to Easter Sunday and Monday.
DS had conversation with coach. Coach still engaging in conversation. Makes us wonder… if he knows, why not just either make the offer or not respond. I have to assume he knows by now, after all, he has to put a roster together… it is possible coach still doesn’t know how is in?

I would bet the coach doesn't know. All (s)he knows is your kid is a qualified candidate (at least in their mind) and there hasn't been a hard no yet.

Hard to tell. Usually the coach knows and will often make the happy call a couple days prior to the official appointment showing up in the portal.

Best case the coach doesn’t know and the admissions team is still putting final touches on the class into Monday.

Worst case, the coach does know, doesn’t want to give bad news, and is just waiting for the system to give the nad news. I feel like this is unlikely.

I’ll throw this out there too…admissions pretty much maintains the same dates for everything year to year. This year, of course, Easter fell right on the final weekend. There are a lot of people involved in the process including the superintendent. It wouldn’t surprise me if Easter weekend was just a bit of a distraction for several on the team and there’s a chance they wont be completely finished and communicated on Monday. I obviously don’t know that with any certainty, but I wouldn’t be surprised either.

Hang in there! Fingers crossed for all of you!

Yes, thank you. Hopeful it’s not worst case scenario. Either way, we will find out tomorrow.

Happy Easter and good luck to all families waiting for the BD update.

Some Dumb Math: Estimated 2000 applicants. Possibly 20% of maybe 1000 on EA were a decline. Now lets assume they are down to the last 20% which is about 60 candidates. That leaves 400 candidates in the anxiety zone on a15% acceptance rates, the numbers are higher on lower acceptance rate.. Anyone care to chime in?

Waiting with patience. Managing doubt and anxiety. Learning to control what you can control and letting go of the rest. The process is a lesson in and of itself. The next 24 hours will let you know what your kid's portfolio of options looks like. If they have made it this far as candidates, they have what it takes to be great no matter where they hang their hats next fall. Be confident and grateful for that.

Bears Den still does NOT have a check box next to the "Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review Complete) Wondering if that's bad?
My kid was EA deferred to RA. Until this morning their application checklist was gone and "stuck" on "Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review Complete" with a link to their December 21 deferral letter. At some point this afternoon their checklist reappeared showing that their application is complete and ready for review, an unchecked box next to "Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review Complete", and the December deferral letter is gone. I know Bear's Den lags a bit, but it would appear the decks are cleared for decision letters to post. That's what passes for news on a slow news day :)

My DS also deferred but his 12/21 letter still there. Hoping something changes today. Anything 🤣

Same. I just checked and his 12/21 letter is no longer there.
